Since the late 1908s, Maura Tierney has regularly appeared in a number of independent feature projects. Some of them were successful while others were nothing much to talk about. She was born in 1965 from an upper scale family in Boston, Massachusetts. She was raised in the Hyde Park district of Boston as the eldest child to a father who was a wealthy politician and city council member. Her mother was in the real estate business as an agent.

Maura Tierney studied at the New York University initially but left before graduation to pursue theatre arts with Circle-in-the-Square Theatre School. Since then, she appeared in stage plays such as ?Danny and the Deep Blue Sea? and ?Baby with the Bathwater.? In the late 1980s, Maura moved to the west coast and landed minor roles in television shows such as ?Family Ties,? ?Growing Pains? and ?Law & Order.? Her debut appearance in film was ?The Linguini Incident? way back in 1991. Maura played the leading lady of a B-movie entitled ?Dead Women In Lingerie? in the same year. However, that movie was a flop. She was cast at the last minute for the TV series ?NewsRadio? where her performance was appreciated by critics in the business.

It was Maura?s TV sitcom work that pushed her to the limelight of comedy flicks. She co-starred with Jim Carrey in ?Liar Liar? and appeared in thriller ?Primal Fear,? ?Primary Colors? and ?Instinct.?
